Since that time, the Preamble to the Design for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has become an affirmation of faith among Disciples. Much has changed in our nation and denomination during the last forty years. At the request of our General Minister and President, Sharon Watkins, a vision team is leading our movement on an exploration of “marks of identity” for Disciples in the 21st century. All CCK churches are being adapted to the four movements of Congregational Multiplication; Full, Faithful, and Effective Congregations; Congregational Redevelopment; and Congregational Services in order to realize our vision of Xtreme Measures which will bring forth New Horizons. The Christian Church In Kentucky is Launching a new congregation inside a prison. Are you called to be its Pastor? The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) In Kentucky is launching a self-standing Disciples congregation in a correctional facility. Located within Luther Luckett Correctional Complex at LaGrange, Kentucky, this new congregation has been developed in concert with Prison Congregations of America, Inc. (PCA) whose mission it is “to collaborate with Christian denominations and prison officials so that prison congregations are established in state prisons across America.” The Disciples prison congregation in LaGrange, KY is a partnership between the inmates. the Kentucky Department of Corrections, the Kentucky Region, and a network of Kentucky congregations. A full-time pastor is currently being sought. The individual called to lead this new congregation must be able to nurture the development of an active inmate congregation, as well as a network of support in the outside church community. The pastor must be ordained or licensed by, and in good standing with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). This is a challenging, but for the right person, exciting and rewarding position. A candidate for this position should be more parish-oriented than institution-oriented. He or she must have the qualities necessary for a pastor of a new church start : outgoing, personable, dedicated and passionate for the mission of the church; enthusiastic about starting something new; a creative self-starter, able to develop and execute a ministry plan and prioritize time and effort toward long- and short-range goals.
