Congregations Working In Covenant to Offer Ministry from Our Doorsteps to Yours

Welcome to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) In Kentucky. Our congregations can be found all across the Commonwealth. If you worshipped in a Disciples congregation this past Sunday for the first time, I invite you to continue visiting as you learn about your faith in God as well as who Disciples are. Ask the minister to make a visit to your home to discuss your faith journey, questions, and talk about joining the church. It is our practice during worship to offer an invitation to anyone who would unite their life with a congregation through transfer of membership or by making a confession of faith for the first time. Our congregations are diverse, vibrant, and seek to serve God through ministries of Hospitality, Compassion, Peace with Justice and Care for Creation. Most importantly, no matter what Disciples congregation you visit, you will experience a community grounded in prayer, guided by scripture, and given to worship.

There are 242 Disciples congregations in Kentucky. They work together through a partnership called the Region to offer:
- Vision for what we (congregations and Region) can do together as we reach for our full kingdom potential;
- Program ministries for women, men, children and youth;
- Outdoor Ministry (church camp) for people of all ages;
- Crisis Care for Pastors and Congregations;
- Relocation Assistance to Congregations Seeking a Minister;
- Relocation Assistance to Ministers Seeking a new call;
- Nurture and Oversight for those answering a call to ministry through seminary training for ordination or licensed ministry for a specific congregation.

Blessings,

J. Gregory Alexander
General Minister, Christian Church In Kentucky

Disciple Identity: Creative Disarray or Chaos
Peer 2 Peer Event for Ministers - April 22-23, 2008

The organization design for restructure was approved in 1968. Since that time, the Preamble to the Design for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has become an affirmation of faith among Disciples. Much has changed in our nation and denomination during the last forty years. At the request of our General Minister and President, Sharon Watkins, a vision team is leading our movement on an exploration of “marks of identity” for Disciples in the 21st century.

Creative Disarray was how Disciples historian Ronald Osborn described ministry in the 1990’s. He noted the changes in culture and the Church were challenging and stretching traditional models of ministry. He notes that the model of ministry for the Church today might be called Creative Disarray. The Peer 2 Peer event is for all Kentucky clergy (licensed and ordained). Download the information flyer and registration form to learn how you can register for this event.

Is You Church "Living Into the Vision?"

It is the goal and vision of the Christian Church in Kentucky that all CCK congregations reach their full Kingdom Potential.  All CCK churches are being adapted to the four movements of Congregational Multiplication; Full, Faithful, and  Effective Congregations; Congregational Redevelopment; and Congregational Services in order to realize our vision of Xtreme Measures which will bring forth New Horizons.  To find out more...

Are you called?

The Christian Church In Kentucky is Launching a new congregation inside a prison.

Are you called to be its Pastor?

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) In Kentucky is launching a self-standing Disciples congregation in a correctional facility. Located within Luther Luckett Correctional Complex at LaGrange, Kentucky, this new congregation has been developed in concert with Prison Congregations of America, Inc. (PCA) whose mission it is “to collaborate with Christian denominations and prison officials so that prison congregations are established in state prisons across America.”  The Disciples prison congregation in LaGrange, KY is a partnership between the inmates. the Kentucky Department of Corrections, the Kentucky Region, and a network of Kentucky congregations.

A full-time pastor is currently being sought.  The individual called to lead this new congregation must be able to nurture the development of an active inmate congregation, as well as a network of support in the outside church community. The pastor must be ordained or licensed by, and in good standing with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). This is a challenging, but for the right person, exciting and rewarding position.

A candidate for this position should be more parish-oriented than institution-oriented. He or she must have the qualities necessary for a pastor of a new church start : outgoing, personable, dedicated and passionate for the mission of the church; enthusiastic about starting something new; a creative self-starter, able to develop and execute a ministry plan and prioritize time and effort toward long- and short-range goals.
