Elkton Church Responds to Shooting

One person was killed in an officer-involved shooting on East Main Street in Elkton on Tuesday afternoon, October 1. The shooting took place in front of the Christian Church of Elkton and the parsonage. Some church members were gathered in the parsonage at the time.

The church responded by becoming the hands and feet of Jesus. They opened the sanctuary, lit candles to create a sacred space, shared food that had been prepared for a chaplain’s training event, and consoled family members on the steps of the church. The church became a refuge for family members, law enforcement officials, and the community.

Rev. Sherry Perry serves as pastor to the Christian Church of Elkton. The Kentucky News Era story on the shooting is available here.
