Called Assembly Approves Constitution Amendments

Communion table for the assembly at First Christian Church, Glasgow, KyThe Christian Church in Kentucky gathered for a Special Called Assembly on Saturday, August 17, 2019, for the purpose of amending the Constitution and By-Laws. 105 participants registered and attended either in person or via Zoom.

Kory Wilcoxson, chair of the Restructure Team, presented a proposal to change the way the Regional Board is populated. Those gathered asked helpful questions, offered much-needed input, and ultimately voted unanimously to adopt the amendments. A copy of the Restructure Team’s report and proposal (as amended) is available here.

We were led in worship by Rev. Dean Phelps, Interim Regional Minister. Dean brought a powerful sermon called “How About Now,” based on Mark 8:22-26, that called us to let Jesus continually improve our vision. Byron and Susie Lucas of First Christian Church in Glasgow led in music and singing. We gathered at the table, breaking bread with one another.

The Christian Church in Kentucky is grateful to First Christian Church in Glasgow, where Revs. Jeff and Anne Bruce are co-pastors, for their incredible hospitality, delicious BBQ lunch, and willingness to host this Assembly. God is at work in the life of this Region, and we are all excited to see where the journey takes us next.
