CYF Seminar 2008
Welcoming the Stranger: Hospitality and Immigration

Six youth and four adults will depart on March 29 for Washington D.C. which is the first leg of CYF Seminar. This week long trip will challenge the group to think about the immigration issues facing our nation as well as how Christians respond with hospitality to all persons. While in D.C. the group will have the opportunity to visit with congressional representatives, visit the Holocause Museum, and learn about the history of immigration in this country. We are thankful for National City Christian Church offering their Bunkhouse Ministry to our group as inexpensive lodging for this first leg of the trip.

On April 2, the group will board a train bound for New York City to continue their study through the United Methodist Seminar which is near the United Nations. While in New York the group will see a Broadway show, tour a tenement museum, and visit Ellis Island. The group has found another inexpensive place to stay through the work of the Lutherans at Seafarers and International House. This is an outreach ministry of the Lutherans helping those who work on cargo ships find affordable housing while in New York. It should be a very international time for our group.

On April 5, the group will board planes bound for Louisville as they return to their congregations to begin the debrief process and consider how their congregation is hospitable to all who enter as well as through their own Outreach ministry.
