Disciples are “a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.” Mission is a part of our Disciples’ DNA. When a need arises, Disciples’ respond. That is one of our many gifts to our communities, country and world.
Kentucky congregations participate in a whole array of local missions responding to the unique needs of their community. They build Habit for Humanity houses, stock and serve local food and clothing banks, creatively participate in Thanksgiving and Christmas ministries for those less fortunate, and respond to families in need when tragedy strikes. They serve on community action boards and in local government to bring the love and justice of God to bear on their communities for the betterment of all.
Kentucky Disciples are strong supporters of Week of Compassion, our disaster relief and development ministry, where Disciples are making a difference throughout the world.
Kentucky Disciples support the mission of the wider church through their financial support of the Disciples Mission Fund (DMF). Money given to DMF by Kentucky Disciples supports the Christian Church In Kentucky (CCK) and the general ministries of the church. Along with CCK, a portion of your DMF dollars supports Transylvania University, Midway College and Lexington Theological Seminary.
Their are six Special Day Offerings each year that go to support particular Disciples’ ministries. They are:
Week of Compassion (Feb) disaster relief and development;
Easter (Easter Sunday) designated only for the General Ministries of the church;
Pentecost (Pentecost Sunday) designated only for new church ministries (fifty-percent returns to KY):
Reconciliation (Sept.) designated only for our priority of becoming an Anti-Racist/Pro-Reconciling Church (eighty-percent returns to KY):
Thanksgiving (Thanksgiving Sunday) designated only for our institutions of higher education (Transy, Midway, LTS)
Christmas (Christmas Sunday) designated only for the Christian Church In Kentucky.
