Living our Faith Experience
Implication of Philosophy
The purpose of Outdoor Ministry programming will be to heighten our
awareness of God's self-disclosure through creation, through Jesus
the Christ, and through the Holy Spirit, and to respond in faith and
love fulfilling our common discipleship. We believe God cares about
all of creation and relationships.
Outdoor Ministry programs, whether hosted at our camp facilities or
offsite, must provide growth opportunities that address the
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of human living in
a safe environment.
Living our faith experience through Outdoor Ministry, our
programming will:
-
Affirm and reflect the belief that creation is God's and we are a
part of creation and entrusted to be the caretakers of creation.
-
Affirm and reflect our commitment to share the stories of faith
found in all of the Biblical witness and continue the Disciples of
Christ tradition of experiencing scripture, developing belief, and
exploring faith with our rational and emotional selves.
-
Challenge children, youth, and adults to widen their experience and
expression of faith in God through: service and worship; words and
silence; play and study; story and Scripture; love and prayer;
forgiveness and faith; aware that all we do reflects our belief about
God.
-
Develop leaders for society, laity and ordained, who have: the
skills to struggle with questions of belief; the ethics to live out
her or his faith experience of God informed by the life and
teachings of Jesus of Nazareth; and the ability to adapt to a
changing world.
-
Develop persons who understand the need for and desire intentional
faith community based on respect for EACH person as a child of God.
-
Affirm and reflect our commitment to ask hard questions about our
present and future programming informed by the lessons taught by
Church/cultural history and tradition.
Programming will not be bound
by tradition and history, but we will intentionally judge our
present and plan for our future through equal parts of: exploring
tradition and history; examining our own historical context;
listening to the voices calling us into the future; and asking the
question, "Is this Outdoor Ministry experience helping, empowering,
and challenging children, youth, and adults to ". . .love God and
love your neighbor as yourself?"
