What Happens at Camp?

A Disciples of Christ camp experience is different than other camp experiences. No matter what kind of camp experience you attend, traditional or non-traditional, you will experience a good blend of the ingredients listed below.

Play

Yes, we play at camp. Silly games and not so competitive games. We shoot hoops, chase the soccer ball, hike, fish, 4-square, play water games or splash in the lake at Kum-Ba-Ya.

Prayer/Worship

Yes, we pray and worship at Camp. Each day the camp spends time in prayer for other kids in the world, for parents and friends, for society, for world leaders, for our church and for the camp. Don't miss Vespers, a short worship following dinner each evening. Campfire and Closing Circle or Closing Triangle are also worship at Camp.

Study

Yes, we open the Bible at Camp. A week of camp includes small groups which meet twice a day to talk about the camp theme or discuss things the keynoter said that make you go, "Hmmm?" You will learn about characters from the Bible and you will learn about the stories that we call, "stories of faith."

Service

Yes, we give of our time, talent, and money at Camp. You might choose to be part of an interest group that paints or builds some place or something for camp. You might help gather wood for campfire or clear a hiking trail. Yes, plan to bring money for offering. You decide how much to bring and remember every day at camp you have a chance to support Disciple Youth Outreach programs.

These ingredients are mixed with your energy, experiences, beliefs and questions along with the energy, experiences, beliefs, and questions of the adult volunteers.

Do adults attending Discovery Camp or Camp 101 need to complete a registration form too?

Yes, please take a moment and complete a registration form for the adult attending with a young camper. We do not need to duplicate medical insurance information again unless the insurance for the adult and child camper is different. Thanks to those who have emailed with this question.

Interest Groups

Traditional Camps offer interest groups in the afternoon. Counselors volunteer to lead these groups.

Examples from last summer:
Arts & Crafts, Technology, Fishing, Games, Camp News,
Hiking, Beads, Camp Banquet/Festival, or Quilting.
