Summer Season Opens this Weekend

June 6 -- Discovery Camp @ Kum-Ba-Ya opened the summer camp season yesterday. Shannon Hall and her staff welcomed first and second graders to KBY for a weekend of breakthroughs about what camp is all about and how God works in our lives. Today, Camp 101a kicks off the Wakon' Da-Ho season using the same curriculum and working on the same goals of Discovery.

This first weekend of camp is one way we introduce outdoor ministry to young children and their parents or guardians. The weekend includes tours of camp, group building, small groups just for the children and for the adults, games, singing, and worship. This weekend provides a few footers of the foundation for personal growth, the language of faith, and what we hope is a desire to keep coming back to camp when events are held.

Do Work: KBY Retreat

April 27 -- Youth groups from across the West Area helped summer preparations at KBY this past weekend (April 24-26) as they cut, hauled, stacked, raked, mended, and played at Kum-Ba-Ya. The West Area Youth Council with support from the XCommittee planned and led the event. This year, work retreat focused on clean up of trees and tree limbs that were downed during the ice storm in February. As you can see from the photos the amout of debris cut, moved, and in some cases stacked for future camp fires is enormous. The volunteerism of the youth and adults that helped this weekend saved the Outdoor Ministry program thousands of dollars. Congregations Attending: Beech Grove CC, FCC Bowling Green, Crofton CC, FCC Glasgow, FCC Mayfield, FCC Owensboro, FCC Princeton, and Smiths Grove CC.

Our thanks to the adult sponsors for West Area Youth Council: Sara Palmer, Kelley Dick, and Carol Kees, for their organizing and resourcing our younger leaders. They worked behind the scene to make sure the youth had the best opportunity to suceed, and to encourage the work that was being done at KBY. Four XComm members attended representing district 5, 9, and 11.

NEXT UP @ KBY: The Far West Men's Group will hold their annual work retreat May 15-16. Dan McKeel (FCC Murray) organizes the group. During their work retreat the group will bury the remaining power lines at KBY and continue the process of replacing roofs on cabins. And, the Far West Men's Group is not only providing the labor to do this work, they are also providing the funding. Thank You!
